Six to Midnight: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Internet, the Watercooler, and the whole fucking planet is abuzz with one thing:

The New Hobbit Trailer.

Talking During the Movies is no different.  The core of our nerdy life here is largely rooted in the Lord of the Rings, and more than one of us has partaken in More than One All-Day extended edition Movie Marathon including the entire trilogy covering the War of the Ring.

So, naturally, this Trailer’s blowing our mindhole just the way we like it!

Manly Movie Monday: Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol

“Your Mission, should you choose to accept it…”

These words are well known to cover up a zillion plot holes.  Nearly as many holes are covered by that one sentence as are covered by similar words like “My name’s Bond.  James Bond.” and “I’ve got a bad feeling about this…”, and I, for one, have been surprisingly blinded by the spectacle that is involved in Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol.  Once again, those words, impressive special effects, and outlandishly awesome fight scenes have resulted in an entirely watchable (and re-watchable) movie.

Sherlock Holmes: A game of Pwnage

I have two words for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:

Bad Ass

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law revisit their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, in the second Sherlock Holmes movie directed by Guy Ritchie. It’s a sequel that stays true to the original movie, if not always the source material. The Sherlock Holmes is as awesome as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic character, but Downey makes it his own in a delightfully incorrigible way. He’s irrepressible, but the audience loves every minute.

Jude Law’s Watson is the perfect compliment to Holmes. He’s the straight man in the movie, with a dry humor that easily counters and compliments Holmes’ eccentric personality. Watson puts on a good show of being exasperated and fed up with Holmes’ antics, but is clearly enjoying himself, objecting more out of habit than anything else. [Read more...]

Oh Hai There, The Dark Knight Rises Trailer

I’m not going to ruin this for you.

Enjoy!

‘Manly Movie Monday’: A Knight’s Tale

What is more manly than a Knight in Shining Armor?  Go ahead, I’ll wait while you try to come up with a suitable answer…  Okay, done?  Anyway – we covered the manliness of Knights a bit when we talked on Monty Python and the Holy Grail a few weeks ago, but it’s important to periodically remind people of such facts.

And A Knight’s Tale glorifies a less-often examine aspect of Knighthood – the Tournament Knight, travelling from Barony to Duchy winning renown not through triumph in battle but through defeating his fellow Knights in chivalrous, but likely harmless battle.  Unlike most medieval movies, especially those about Knights, A Knight’s Tale is not about war – A Knight’s Tale is a sports Movie, covering the most manly sport imaginable.  Jousting.  [Read more...]

Brief News

The Rumor Mill has a trailer for the Hobbit being attached to next weekend’s Tintin – yet another reason to watch a movie that seemed like it will be quite an excellent movie!

Oh also – Congratulations to Briana Lucero, who’s won last week’s giveaway after a random selection among the three entrants!  Your prize’ll be there ASAP!

Tuesday Poll: Disney or Pixar?

The Pixar purchase was the smartest move Disney ever made.  The George Lucas and Steve Jobs inspired group at Pixar brought us Toy Story, Cars, Ratatouille and Up!  While Disney has a huge stable of theatrical and straight-to-DVD releases.  But we don’t judge movies based on numbers, we judge on quality and for quality fun for the whole family, my vote goes to ….

Pixar!

What about you?  Take our poll and tell us what you think!

Disney Movies or Pixar Movies (yes, we know they're all one now but...)

“I Have Missed you, Holmes…”

Yes, it’s true that Robert Downey, Jr. isn’t exactly stretching away from his own personality (or at least, his public persona) in his portrayal of the boozy, silly, bare-knuckled boxing Sherlock Holmes.  At least this movie is honest about it being the same as another movie.

The trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, the sequel to Guy Ritchie’s 2009 Sherlock Holmes doesn’t reveal anything new, but that’s to be expected with a character as old as Sherlock Holmes and a sequel to a very solid Holiday Action movie.  But don’t only take my word for it, look at the video yourself

People, You’re So Wrong

Last week, People Magazine announced it’s “Sexiest Man Alive” awarding the title to Bradley Cooper.  TDtM is not going to argue that he is hot, but here are a few people that I think might be more deserving:

Ben Affleck:  Yes, he’s won before, but let’s admit to ourselves that being a grounded, gorgeous father of two (soon to be 3) with a hot wife that is never in the tabloids is incendiary.

Matt Damon:  Based on a highly scientific poll conducted at TDtM, he should just be awarded the title forever.

What do you say?

Sexiest Man Alive - Ever!

  • Matt Damon (33%, 1 Votes)
  • Bradley Cooper (33%, 1 Votes)
  • Other (33%, 1 Votes)
  • George Clooney (0%, 0 Votes)
  • Ben Affleck (1%, 0 Votes)

“I love Fart Shoes” – The Muppets

Hi TDtM.  Remember Jourdan?  Well she’s half of the tag-team which’ll provide the very best in Movie Reviews from the Khan’s perspective.  Because, despite anything Missy says, The Khan is the cutest person watching movies for TDtM
Jourdan: Khanatoly!  Did you like The Muppets?
The Khan: I liked it. It was funny. My favorite was when Selena Gomez showed up and was like “I don’t even know why I’m here.” Who was the kid with her? Remember when he asked if Kermit was a ninja turtle? That was funny. Ninja turtles are old, aren’t they?
Jourdan: Yeah, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are about twenty years old now. The Muppets are older though. And that kid’s name is Rico Rodriguez.

The Khan: Why are they still around if they’re so old?

Jourdan: Well, they’re still awesome, aren’t they? You liked the movie right?

The Khan: Yeah, I guess. They’re still funny. It was good. I laughed when the guy from The Big Bang Theory showed up. Why were so many people from How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory in there?

Jourdan: Well, Jason Segel, who plays Marshall on How I Met Your Mother and Gary in The Muppets, co-wrote the movie with Nicholas Stoller. Maybe they’re friends? Jim Parsons (that’s the name of the guy who plays Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory) made a great Human Walter though. That was funny. And of course Neil Patrick Harris had to be in there!

The Khan: Okay. If you say so.

Jourdan: So, who is your favorite Muppet?

The Khan: I don’t know. I can’t pick one.

Jourdan: My favorite is Animal. “Animal drum!”

The Khan: I like the bear’s fart shoes, with those things I can’t remember what they’re called, on his feet.

Jourdan: Yeah, Fozzi’s Fart Shoes with the whoopi cushions were awesome. I liked all the celebrities in there too. It was funny when they made Jack Black their celebrity host. And I can’t believe they got Mickey Rooney.

The Khan: I don’t know who that is.

Jourdan: That’s okay. Trust me. It was cool.

The Khan: Not as cool as Walter being electrocuted.

Jourdan: You have a point there. So. What do you think? Do you want to see it again?

The Khan: Yes!

Jourdan: Me too. I think I just overdosed on cuteness walking out of the theater.

The Khan: Ooookay…
